582-2910I’m Marsha Cowper, pronounced Cooper, and I’ve had the joy and privilege of directing PCOM Preschool for over thirty-six years. I absolutely love what I do. The ironic thing about it is that when my friend told me that the church was looking for a director for a Christian preschool and that I should call and tell them about myself, I just wasn’t interested. She said I should call, pray about it, and leave it up to God. Well, that’s what I did and He let me know, without a doubt, that this is where He wanted me to be! I have definitely been blessed.
I’ve been here long enough to have children attending the preschool whose parents attended here when they were little. Now they’re back with children of their own. Wow! What a joy it is to see our previous students all grown up!
I love telling the Bible stories and singing with the children when we have our chapel time. Sharing Jesus with the children is so special and I absolutely delight in listening to their response to the stories. I try to involve the children by letting them help me by holding puppets or other props during the song time or by choosing a colored pocket on my story apron so the can see the puppet that was hiding inside the pocket.
I enjoy every aspect of the preschool from planning the program each year, meeting the parents, singing and praying with the staff during devotion time and to getting acquainted with the children. It’s fun to watch the children grow and develop new skills and share in their moments of triumph throughout the school year.
When I’m not at school I enjoy spending time with my wonderful husband, Ron. We met when we were twelve years old. He told me he would marry me some day. I said, “No you’re not. I’m going to be an old maid school teacher and raise cats!” We were too young to go on dates. He would just walk me home from school. His family moved away about six months later and I didn’t see him for many years. He said that he never forgot about me and one day when he was back in town he looked me up. We began dating and eventually we got married.
My husband and I were born in Michigan. My husband hated the snow. One day he and his dad were watching the Rose Bowl and his dad told him to go out and shovel the snow because people were coming for dinner. That’s when he decided that after high school he would go to college and be an engineer so he could move to California. That’s how we got here. An aerospace company offered him a job in California, all moving expenses paid. So, at twenty-two years of age, we sold our house and were off on a wonderful adventure to sunny California. We love it and are here to stay.
Ron and I raised four children, two boys and two girls. We have ten grandchildren, five boys and five girls. All of our children and grandchildren have made a personal commitment to Jesus Christ. Now we have two baby great grandsons and two more great grandbabies on the way. Our little family is really growing! When I’m not at school I enjoy taking care of my home. I love decorating and changing accessories related to holidays and seasons. Ron says it’s the teacher in me. I change accessories at home like the teacher changes bulletin boards at school. I like to read, listen to music, and enjoy family get togethers. Most of all I enjoy people. All kinds of people. Old people, young people, children, babies, and of course, teddy bears. I love and collect teddy bears.
PCOM is a wonderful place to serve the Lord. It’s my home away from home and I feel very blessed to be apart of this team for all of the years.
