PCOM MEMBERS RETURNING TO THE GULF COAST FOR “PROJECT HOMECOMING”
The PCOM “Katrina Team,” composed of thirty new and past volunteers, will be heading to New Orleans again this year to offer construction assistance to “Project Homecoming” in New Orleans, Louisiana, April 14-21, 2012. There is still much work to be done, especially in the Ninth Ward where homes were under ten feet of water during Hurricane Katrina. After many years of dedicated leadership by Brownie Turner, the team will be led this year by Dwight Woodruff. The PCOM team will be joined by members of Laguna Presbyterian Church as partners in various mission activities, such as the recent Joplin, Missouri, mission trip.
PCOM’s “Katrina Team” has traveled to New Orleans at their own expense, sending seven teams in the past six years to offer construction assistance, comfort and compassion to those who have been devastated by this disaster, and to put faith in action. The “Comforters” of PCOM have provided two handmade quilts to each designated family whose home was part of PCOM’s work. These presentations are always one of the highlights of the trip as grateful homeowners express their appreciation. The Mission Team has requested that PCOM members be involved in all of PCOM’s mission activities, whether by hands-on, prayer and/or financial assistance. It is in that vein that the “Katrina Team” is asking for your support in these areas. The Team has set a goal of needed support in the amount of $7,000 to cover the cost of five or six seven-passenger vans for the week, construction material, and supplies for the projects. Please check the bulletin announcements for informational and training sessions. Questions regarding the trip may be directed to Dwight Woodruff at email address: dbwoodruff@cox.net.
